Chris's Story

Chris has more than 25 years of experience serving the Valley as a licensed Christian counselor. He began his career in 1999, working for the nonprofit Family Life Counseling and Education Center (formerly an affiliate of Family Life Ministries). In 2000, when Family Life closed their counseling centers nationwide, Chris and several other Christian therapists created another nonprofit agency called Phoenix Christian Counseling Associates (PCCA). Chris remained with PCCA until 2007, when he left PCCA and founded Northwest Christian Counseling, LLC (NWCC) to serve as a trusted counseling referral source to the local churches and communities in the northwest valley. In addition to serving and supporting the general public, Chris and his wife (Rebecca) have also partnered with local churches and organizations for many years, in a variety of different roles, and have a heart for supporting pastors and their spouses/families, church staff, and others involved in Christian missions and ministry.

Chris provides counseling services to individuals, couples, and families. He can work with many different issues, but his primary focus areas tend to be: compulsive sexualized behaviors (includine sexual addiction, recovery from affairs/infidelity, and more); marriage and relationship issues (communication/conflict, emotional detachment and disconnection); men’s issues (anger; self-worth and self-esteem issues); spiritual issues (including ministry-related and church-based issues); and other general issues including anxiety, depression, and more. Chris utilizes interventions from a variety of common therapies, including CBT (cognitive-behavioral therapy), DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), attachment-based principles and theory, and more. As a practicing Christian, Chris is experienced in integrating professional therapeutic services with a faith-based, Christian approach (for those who are wanting Christian-based services). In addition to his role as a counselor, Chris also has almost 30 years of continued service with the State of Arizona, including 24 years in the field of criminal and juvenile justice, where he serves as the lead advocate for Victims at a State agency within the Juvenile Justice and Corrections system.

Chris and his wife Rebecca have been married since 1999, and have two adult sons. They have been involved in serving the local church since they met in the mid-90’s. In his free time, Chris enjoys spending time outdoors (running, hiking, going to the lake, fishing, traveling) and spending time with friends and family.

Chris has a lifelong passion for encouraging, supporting, and helping others, and would be honored to talk with you to see if he’s a good fit for your counseling needs.
